Homespun is the dream and vision of Laura Laird, a self taught chef who brings 38 years of creativity and experience in the kitchen. Born and raised in communist Romania where ingredients were sparse and freedom was even sparser, she started learning how to make tasty and filling meals with the little her family had at the tender age of 6, in her maternal grandmother's kitchen. At 12 she made her first big meal on her own and she has never looked back since.

In 1992 she left Romania and traveled to both France and Germany before coming to Texas. Her first time seeing a real grocery store in Paris was an experience she never forgot. When she finally settled and made her home in Houston, she felt like a kid in a candy store every time she went grocery shopping. To this day, she is still amazed that she can go to the store anytime she wants and find what she needs.

As time passed, as she spent every spare minute reading about food, learning about the different cuisines of the world, watching cooking shows to learn more and experimenting with new ingredients she had never seen and new flavors she didn't know existed, her love for food and cooking became a passion that translated onto every plate she filled.

She became a wife, moved to DFW with her husband, became a mother of two daughters and while deciding to be a stay at home mom, she continued learning about food, cooking, experimenting and in 2011 she even wrote and published a cook book.
​
After so many years of cooking and loving food, she decided to share her passion and flavors with the world. Homespun embodies her love of cooking and entertaining and gives her a chance to do both. There is nothing that brings her more joy than to make people happy with her food and see them laugh, talk and have a good time gathered around her table.

Serving people in her home, in an intimate atmosphere, without the rush and hustle of a restaurant, gives her the opportunity to pay personal attention to each dish and each plate she serves, giving her diners not just delicious food but an unforgettable experience.

Here's how it works
Enjoy a 4 course chef's choice tasting menu in a private and relaxing atmosphere, either in your home or at the Homespun location. Every event takes diners on a culinary tour of a different theme, country around the world or various regions in the United States. Away from the hustle and bustle of a noisy restaurant, you and your dining companions can get to know one another over delicious food and a glass of wine in an intimate setting.
We send out a group e-mail to everyone on our mailing list with the details of every new event, including the date, time and menu. We then select a group of 6 to 12 people, on a rotating basis, from the e-mail requests we receive. After receiving your invitation, please RSVP no later than a week before the event. If you need to cancel, please give us a 48 hour cancelation notice, so that we have enough time to fill your spot.
There will be a suggested contribution for every event to cover our costs which will vary according to the ingredients used and will be mentioned in our
e-mail invitation. Please make your donation in cash, as we are not yet equipped for credit card donations. We have decided that the best way for our diners to enjoy themselves is to bring their own preferred wine or beer, so all our dinners are BYOB. Expect to spend about
2 1/2 to 3 hours enjoying your meal. This is a culinary tour meant to be savored, not rushed.
Our ingredients are the highest quality possible, organic, natural and GMO free, as well as local and in season*. We don't believe in gimmicks and tricks, just delicious, honest food to satisfy your hunger, delight your palate and enhance your dining experience.
We celebrate the beauty of food, the joy of friendship and the warmth that comes from spending time together, gathered around our communal table. As we say in Romania, Pofta Buna!
*We always strive to find local and in season ingredients, however there are times when those cannot be found. But be assured that whether local or not, our ingredients are always organic, with no artificial hormones or antibiotics and pesticide and GMO free.
